Considerations When Choosing Where To Live

When it comes to choosing a location that you are going to spend much of your life in, more so if you are purchasing your house, it is about more than how the house looks. The area that it is in will give away a lot about the people you will be surrounded by. When you find a home that you think is the one for you, before making that offer here are some considerations for you.

You won’t get a feel for the people who live in the area until you have spent a bit longer there. Which is harder to do the further away from that you live. So when you have your first viewing, stay in the area for a few hours. Have a walk around and see what the people are like. If you are pretty brave, you can even talk to your (might be new) neighbours. Google Maps has a function that can find you things to do in the local area – so make use of it.

If you have children, then you will already be looking at catchment areas and how you can get your kids into the best local school. Best is, of course, completely relative to what you find the most important thing. If you don’t have children, then you might still like to take notice of the nursery options in the area because if your buying a house, then the chances are you may be starting a family in the next few years. It pays to know your options in advance.

Healthcare is a big deal. If you move to an area where the Dr is oversubscribed, then you’re going to run into issues getting an appointment. When you are in the location of the house, google ‘dentist near me’ and ‘Drs near me’ and then call them up and see if they have space for new patients and what the wait time might be like for an appointment.

Things to do

If you like to keep busy on your weekends and head out to the woods or local nature reserves, then you are probably going to want to make sure that you can excellent access to that. Main roads, or if you don’t drive then good public transport to as near as possible. Museums and art galleries are always an excellent option for many people. They are often free and have a lot of activities and classes that are worth taking advantage of. Great coffee shops are likely to be high on your list too. Finding that place with the great carrot cakes and incredibly coffee can be a weekly treat for you.

Although what is in the area is going to make a difference to you and the price, you should remember if you really love a house – when you close the front door, it doesn’t really matter what is going on outside. Aiming for a balance is always going to be in your best interest.
